We love all of the neutrals we see out there. The cream, gray and black with a pop of color really suit our aesthetic. But, let’s face it, we don’t want to spend a fortune redecorating each time we are moved by a new trend. So, we decided to put together a high vs. low list of some basics to get us started on a neutral living room. As you can see, you can achieve the look on two very different budgets.
Mountain House – High v. Low

When winter comes, I like to daydream about having a mountain house. Truth be told, it is very unlikely that we will ever have a mountain house; no one in my family is a particularly good skier and we are not motivated to spend 4+ hours to get to the the snow, only to turn around and spend 4+ hours driving home less than 48 hours later. But, I have romanticized the notion of a mountain house for a number of years and one particularly fun part of the fantasy is imagining the decor. The image above would do nicely.
If we were to ever have a mountain house, there would be very little budget let for decor. So, I set out to recreate a “high vs. low” version of this room. Here is what I found.
Here Comes The Sun
Despite it being mid-October, San Francisco is enjoying what seems to be a never-ending “indian summer.” All this sunshine has got me thinking about sunburst mirrors. I seem to see them everywhere I turn . . . bathrooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and nurseries. Some are vintage, some are mid-century, and others are brand, spanking new. I guess this should not come as a surprise; worship of the sun goes back to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Babylonians, Incas, and Aztecs. Unfortunately, I know that our lovely warm weather will not last forever. So, in an attempt to extend the sunshine into the dreary winter months that lie ahead, I have decided to share a few of the more interesting sunburst mirrors that I have found.
