Home Office Organization

The new year always inspires me to get organized.  This year is no different.  Ironically, the room that I use the most, my office, is the one that most desperately needs an organizational overhaul.  Unfortunately, my office is also in need of a complete overhaul.  The room appears to be a covered roof deck that a previous owner enclosed and turned into a room.  The room has no insulation, terrible windows, and a sliding glass door to the roof (not a roof deck, straight up roof).
Due to the energy inefficiency and safety issues of my current home office, we are planning to bring the room up to code and incorporate it into our home.   That project, however, will not begin for 4-6 months.  The upside of the delay is that I have plenty of time to consider how to make my home office organized and inspiring.  Here is a round up of my favorite ideas to date:
1.  Neutral palette with natural elements.  For me, a blank canvas is an inspiring space.  I love a clean desk, sharpened pencils and new notebooks.  White is an obvious color choice for a neutral back drop, but I also love a neutral animal print or a seagrass accessories.  Here are a few of my jumping off points.

2.  Room for two.  My office space is tight (the room is 9 x 9) and most of the time that is fine because I am generally alone when I am working from home.  Now that I have been spending time on this creative endeavor, however, it would be nice to have a space that is flexible enough for two of us to work together.  For me, that means an extra chair that I can pull around to the other side of my desk, but if I had a little more space I’d love to have a table and chairs or a sofa.

3.  Closed storage.  No matter how organized a person is, there is always some clutter that has to be hidden.  Maybe it is the file folders, a printer, or just loose papers that have not found a home.  Here area two good options.

4.  Inspiration/Mood Board.  I am consistently inspired by other people’s mood boards.  Somehow, I have never had the time or space to create my own inspiring installation.  In my new space, I want to inspire myself with beautiful images like the ones below.
